Abstract
This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise and statin therapy on inflammatory markers in patients with coronary artery disease. Thirty seven patients were divided into three groups; SE group with statin and exercise therapy, EO group with exercise only and SO group with statin only. Exercise program was consisted of hospital based aerobic exercises for 6 weeks and community based exercises for 8 weeks. Serum inflammatory markers, and body composition were assessed before and after experiment. C-reactive protein, cytokines in SE group were significantly improved after treatment. These changes were also shown in EO and SO groups but much lesser than SE group. Only EO group were significantly improved in body composition after experiment. These findings suggest that the combination of aerobic exercise and statin therapy was more effective than single therapy for reducing the inflammatory markers in patients with coronary artery disease.
